Marlene Thorne has given decades of faithful service to Martin Luther School — first as an Early Childhood and Kindergarten classroom teacher for many years, and now as one of the school’s beloved volunteer librarians. Miss Marlene Thorne is a cherished presence in the halls of MLS, where generations of students have been shaped by her gentle, steady care.
Miss Thorne spent many years teaching the youngest students at Martin Luther School — in Early Childhood and Kindergarten classrooms where she built foundations of faith, literacy, and love of learning that her students carry to this day. When she stepped out of the classroom, she didn’t step away from MLS. Instead, she turned her love of books into volunteer library service, continuing to pour into the students and the school she has always called her own.
Her presence in the MLS library is a gift to the entire school community — a living picture of what it looks like to serve faithfully across many seasons of life. Students who walk into the library at Martin Luther School encounter someone who has been caring for children here longer than most of them can imagine, and whose love for this school has never dimmed.
From Classroom to Library — A Legacy of Service
Miss Thorne spent many years as an Early Childhood and Kindergarten teacher at Martin Luther School before transitioning to her current role as a library volunteer. Across both seasons of service, her gift has remained the same: a love for children and a conviction that Christian education is one of the most important investments a community can make. MLS is grateful for her continued presence and her faithfulness through the years.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV)
