Sue Doennig serves Martin Luther School as a library volunteer and serves the broader Immanuel and MLS community as a handler and caregiver for Daniel Comfort Dog. A retired public school English teacher, Sue Doennig brings decades of experience with words, books, and students to everything she gives to MLS.
After a career serving students in public school English classrooms, Mrs. Doennig brought her love of literature and learning to Martin Luther School — volunteering in the school library where she continues to put good books in the hands of students. Her passion for reading and language lives on through the MLS library, one student at a time.
Mrs. Doennig is also a trained handler and caregiver for Daniel Comfort Dog, Immanuel’s LCC K-9 Comfort Dog. She was part of the original team commissioned in January 2023 and has been walking alongside Daniel in his ministry ever since — accompanying him on visits to schools, community events, and wherever compassion is needed. Her involvement reflects a life of quiet, faithful service that hasn’t slowed down one bit.
Daniel Comfort Dog Handler & Library Volunteer
Mrs. Doennig serves on the Daniel Comfort Dog handler team at Immanuel Lutheran Church — one of nearly a dozen volunteers who take Daniel on visits to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and community events throughout the week. As a caregiver, she also plays an important role in Daniel’s daily care. Her combined ministry of library service and comfort dog work makes her one of MLS’s most quietly impactful volunteers.
