Lyla Glaskey has taught 7th and 8th grade at Martin Luther School for over a decade — and she is exactly the kind of teacher every middle schooler needs. Known affectionately as “Mrs. G,” she meets students at a critical turning point in their lives with patience, humor, and a deep belief that each child is one of God’s unique creations.
Mrs. Glaskey specializes in language arts and social studies, bringing a love of story, history, and communication to her classroom every day. She understands that 7th and 8th grade is a season of rapid change — academically, socially, and spiritually — and she designs her instruction to challenge students intellectually while grounding them in their identity in Christ.
The transition from elementary to middle school can be a challenging one, and Mrs. Glaskey is deliberate about building a classroom culture where students feel seen, supported, and challenged to grow. She partners closely with families and works alongside the MLS pastoral staff and DCE to support the whole child — not just the academic one.
Beyond her core teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Glaskey has made significant contributions to the school’s culture and programs. She was a key contributor to Martin Luther School’s 2026 NLSA accreditation process, which resulted in an outstanding review of 8 Strengths and 0 Deficiencies.
Mrs. Glaskey is married to Jason Glaskey, Director of Christian Education at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and together they serve the MLS and Immanuel community with deep commitment. Their two adult children are both MLS alumni, each attending from preschool through 8th grade. Learn more about our academic programs, Upper Grades (5–8), or Grades 7–8 at Martin Luther School.
Education & Credentials
Mrs. Glaskey holds a Lutheran Teaching Degree from Concordia University—Nebraska, along with bachelor’s degrees in elementary and secondary education with a concentration in language arts and an emphasis in social studies. As a Commissioned Minister of Religion on the LCMS clergy roster, her calling to teach is recognized alongside ordained ministry in the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
Original Playwright — Order in the Court (2025)
In May 2025, MLS staged the world premiere of Order in the Court — an original musical with a script written by Mrs. Glaskey and music by Caleb and Erin Paxton. A courtroom comedy exploring themes of honesty, forgiveness, and grace — performed entirely by MLS students. See our full Programs page to learn more about the arts at Martin Luther School.
A Legacy That Started Here
Miss Estella Fritz founded what became Joplin’s very first kindergarten program at Martin Luther School — so beloved by the community that MLS named a scholarship after her, the Estella Fritz Scholarship, still awarded to families today.
Lyla’s mother, Saundra Dover, served as school secretary at Martin Luther School for many years. Her daughter Lyla Dover sat in Miss Fritz’s kindergarten classroom in 1978 — pictured below. That little girl grew up, earned a Lutheran Teaching Degree, received a divine call, and came back to teach at the same school where her mother had served and where she herself had learned to read.
Lyla’s own children then attended Martin Luther School from preschool through 8th grade. Three generations of one family, all woven into the fabric of this school — Martin Luther School has been part of the Glaskey family story for a long time, and the Glaskey family has been part of ours.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
