Every Saturday night, families across Joplin prepare for Sunday worship. And at Martin Luther School, something remarkable happens: students already know the Scripture they will hear at church.
The 25 Bible passages students memorize each year at MLS are not chosen at random. They come directly from the three-year lectionary cycle — the same passages read aloud in the Immanuel Lutheran Church sanctuary on Sunday mornings. Year after year, the words students carry in their hearts are the very words their families hear together in worship.
25 passages per year. 100 Scriptures by graduation. When MLS students walk across the stage, they carry the Word of God with them — drawn from a lifetime of Sunday worship. That is a gift no circumstance can take away.
This Year: “Let’s Make a Joyful Noise!”
This year’s Bible Bee theme celebrates the joy of worship and the gift of God’s Word through music. Students in grades 3–8 wrote each of their 25 memory verses on music notes — and hung them from the ceiling of the school hallway, filling the building with Scripture and song. On Bible Bee day, classroom champions step forward to recite their passages, compete for the school title, and earn a place on our school plaque.
