High School Preparation

Seventh and eighth graders at Martin Luther School experience a rigorous, departmentalized academic program designed to prepare them for success in high school. Students move between subject-specific teachers for in-depth instruction in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies — just as they will in high school. Students ready for advanced work progress into pre-algebra and algebra, giving them a genuine academic head start. NWEA MAP Growth testing three times per year tracks each student’s growth and informs our differentiated Power Hour instruction in math and reading.

A Faculty That Knows Every Student

With small class sizes, a faculty that averages 16 years of experience, and a school where every adult knows every child by name, our 7th and 8th graders receive the individual attention and mentorship that larger schools simply cannot match. Parents of MLS graduates frequently share that their children felt ahead of their peers in high school — not just in academics, but in character and leadership.

Leadership and Service

Our 7th and 8th graders are the leaders of Martin Luther School. They serve on Student Council, lead chapel services, mentor younger students, and contribute to The Glow, our weekly school publication. Youth group — led by our DCE — provides additional fellowship, Bible study, and leadership development in a fun, faith-filled community setting. Students at this level deepen their understanding of Lutheran doctrine, church history, and what it means to live out their faith as servant-leaders.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)

Activities and Competition

Seventh and eighth graders compete in athletics, Robotics Club, Academic Fair, Geography Bee, and Bible Bee. The annual spring musical is a highlight of the year, and our school choir and handbell choir provide performance opportunities throughout the school year. Quarterly electives allow students to explore new interests with teachers and community experts. MLS graduates leave with strong academics and a well-rounded set of experiences and memories that last a lifetime.
