Bible Knowledge Day

Friday, October 2, 2026 is a regular school day for every grade. Students in 1st through 4th grade spend the day at Bible Knowledge Day in Lockwood, Missouri. Early Childhood, kindergarten, and grades 5–8 have a normal day at school.
Bible Knowledge Day is a friendly Bible quiz day for Lutheran school students in grades 1–4. About 115 students from four schools take part this year. Our host is Immanuel Lutheran School in Lockwood. That is a sister school, not Immanuel Lutheran Church here in Joplin.
How the Day Works
- 9:30 a.m. — Opening devotions in the sanctuary.
- Morning — Bible knowledge rounds. Each grade is split into teams that mix students from different schools, so children make new friends.
- Lunch — Provided: ham and cheese sliders, chips, fruit, and a cookie. Students may bring their own lunch instead. Everyone eats with their team.
- All-School Competition — One student from each grade represents Martin Luther School.
- About 1:15 p.m. — Closing, with a few songs if time allows.

Common Questions
Is school in session that day?
Yes, for every grade. Grades 1–4 spend the school day in Lockwood. Everyone else has a regular day in Joplin.
When do students leave and get back?
Your child’s teacher will send departure and return times. You can also call the school office at (417) 624-1403.
What are the rules?
Teams talk over each answer quietly, and one student gives it. Each question is read once, and once more on request. Teams get 15 seconds for spoken questions and 30 seconds for written ones. Partly correct answers count as incorrect, and the judge’s decision is final.
Weren’t class pictures on October 2?
They were. Because grades 1–4 will be away, class pictures and picture retakes moved to Monday, October 12.
What Is Around It on the Calendar
The next week brings the PTO Spaghetti Dinner on October 9 and class pictures on October 12. The first quarter ends October 14. The full year is on our school calendar.
